Message from the President of EASTS-Japan (May 20th, 2011)

On behalf of people suffered from the Great East Japan Earthquake 2011 and EASTS-Japan, I would like to express our hearty thanks to all EASTS members who have expressed warm message of sympathy and solidarity.

I would also like to express sincere gratitude to The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), Korean Society of Transportation (KST) and Thai Society for Transportation and Traffic Studies (TSTS) for generous contribution to the Relief Fund (managed by NIKKEI SHIMBUN, the major daily newspaper) on the Great East Japan Earthquake 2011.The contributions including EASTS-Japan's donation was listed in the regular reporting by the NIKKEI SHIMBUN (Scanned list). Finally, NIKKEI will hand over the donations to the Japan Red Cross.

Now almost all transportation facilities are restarted and work as usual except some ports and local railway lines damaged by Tsunami. However, situation in many cities/towns which suffered serious damages is yet to be restored completely. And, as you are aware of, problem in the atomic power plants is the most burdensome obstacle.

Although the restoration works would be long and challenging, we all Japanese people will stand up against these difficulties. Your goodwill and supports certainly gives us much needed strength and confidence.

Thank you again and best regards,

ISHIDA Haruo
President of EASTS-Japan
